Kowie Foundation School provides quality education for learners in the foundation phase. We offer the following subjects:
- Afrikaans First Additional Language
- Xhosa Second Additional Language
- Life Skills (which includes Art, Bible Studies, Computers and Physical Education)
We are very proud of the art at Kowie Foundation School. Mrs Carol Lee is an exceptional art teacher, who guides the learners step by step, yet at the same time she allows them to demonstrate their individuality. The children explore different techniques and work with different mediums. We have achieved high accolades at the Bathurst Agricultural Show. In 2016, Joshua de Villiers won the trophy for the Junior School Learner with the most art points. Leah McKay won this trophy in 2017. We also won two rosettes for Best Grade 1 and Best Grade 2 art piece on display at the show.
Our children are registered with the Knowledge Network Program, a program which runs from Grade R to Grade 12. Children are taught basic computer skills using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word. They play fun games designed to improve their dexterity, typing, resizing, dragging and clicking skills. At the same time, these games improve their vocabulary, memory and Mathematics skills.
Gene Pancoust is an Occupational Therapist who provides private sessions at Kowie Foundation School on a weekly basis.
Colleen Clark provides Extra Mathematics and English lessons when required.
We are very excited to be providing Xhosa classes to all our learners on a weekly basis. Children are exposed to this local language through singing and dancing and more recently through reading and writing. We aim to teach them some of the history of the language as well as Xhosa traditions, food and music.
